Stunning Jokulsarlon Pre Wedding Photography in Iceland

Pre Wedding Engagement Photography in Jokulsarlon Iceland

After the amazing first day of pre wedding photography in Iceland with Randy and Corene there was still lots to explore so we drove over 600km on the second day to visit the amazing Ice Lagoon at Jokulsarlon and it was definitely worth the long journey.

I have photographed weddings in Iceland before and at Jokulsarlon but it never fails to blow me away. This is one of the most amazing natural wonders in Iceland and was formed when the Vatnajokull glacier started to retreat and giant icebergs began to fall off into the remaining lagoon.

The journey to the Jokulsarlon ice lagoon may have been a long one but it is definitely not dull and there are plenty of amazing locations that we stopped off at to take photographs. Iceland is one of those places where it is best to give yourself much longer that you think you need as there is always an amazing backdrop for lots of pre wedding photographs.

Here are some of the images from day 2 of this Iceland pre wedding photography session.

Planning the perfect pre wedding shoot in Iceland

Planning a pre-wedding photoshoot in Iceland is like stepping into a dream. This land of fire and ice offers some of the most breathtaking landscapes on the planet, making it an exceptional location for capturing your love story. Here’s a few tips and some information from an Iceland pre wedding photographer.

Why Iceland is an Unforgettable Pre-Wedding Shoot Location

Iceland's diverse and dramatic landscapes create a stunning backdrop for pre-wedding photography. From the awe-inspiring waterfalls and black sand beaches to the majestic glaciers and Northern Lights, the natural beauty of Iceland provides a unique and mesmerising setting for your photos.

Top Locations for Pre-Wedding Shoots in Iceland

Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach

Reynisfjara, with its hauntingly beautiful black sands and towering basalt columns, offers a dramatic contrast for couples. The powerful waves of the North Atlantic Ocean add a dynamic and raw energy to your photos, embodying the power and depth of your relationship.

Skógafoss and Seljalandsfoss Waterfalls

These waterfalls are not just water cascading over cliffs; they are nature's cathedrals, providing a majestic and serene ambiance for your shoot. The mist and rainbows often seen here add a magical element to your photos, symbolizing new beginnings and hope.

The Blue Lagoon

The surreal Blue Lagoon, with its milky blue waters and steamy atmosphere, offers a serene and otherworldly setting. It’s perfect for couples seeking a mix of luxury and natural beauty in their pre-wedding photography.

Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon

At Jökulsárlón, the dance of light on ice and the serene blues of the glacier water create a serene, dream-like setting. The floating icebergs add an element of the sublime, perfect for a narrative of enduring love.

Practical Advice for Couples Planning a Shoot in Iceland

Dealing with the Weather

Icelandic weather can be as dramatic as its landscapes, so come prepared for all scenarios. Warm, waterproof clothing is a must, as is embracing the unexpected – it can add an authentic and adventurous element to your photos.

Timing Your Visit

Summer offers long daylight hours and milder weather, making it ideal for photography. Winter, while colder, presents the opportunity to capture the Northern Lights.

Legal Considerations

Check if you need permits for photography at certain locations, especially in national parks or protected areas.

Transportation

Renting a vehicle is advisable to navigate the remote locations comfortably. Make sure it’s suitable for Iceland’s varying terrain.

Respect the Environment

Iceland’s landscapes are delicate. Always follow local guidelines and respect nature during your shoot.

Making the Most of Your Icelandic Adventure

Embrace the unique elements of Iceland’s landscapes. The contrast of rugged terrain with your love story creates a dynamic and compelling narrative in your photographs. Allow spontaneity – let the natural beauty guide your poses and expressions.

A pre-wedding shoot in Iceland is not just about capturing images; it’s about immortalising moments in one of the world's most enchanting landscapes. It’s an adventure that adds an extraordinary chapter to your love story, resulting in photos that are as breathtaking as the land itself.

Remember, planning is key – from choosing the right locations to being prepared for Iceland's ever-changing climate. With thoughtful preparation, your pre-wedding photoshoot in Iceland will be an unforgettable experience, capturing the magic and wonder of your journey together.
