The Ancient Lanes of Lijiang in China

The Ancient Lanes of Lijiang in China

China's a strange place to figure out. For a country with such a strong military and police presence, there is very little regard for rules and regulations. People completely ignore traffic lights, speeding signs, no smoking signs, and pretty much any sign that tells people not to do something. The police seem to take no notice about these things but then board buses and coaches to check everyones identification and to make sure they keep tabs on where people are travelling to within China. I never felt in danger there but it always had this feeling that something's not quite right, there's so many shady looking characters hanging around in hotels and on streets that you wonder what every one is up to. Still. it's an amazing place and totally worth putting up with these little annoyances for!

This shot was taken in Lijiang and I had just set up to grab a shot of this temple when this group of soldiers came marching along the cobbles completely in sync with each other.
