Scotland Destination Adventure Pre Wedding Photography in Glencoe and Glenfinnan

Scottish Highlands Destination Pre Wedding Photography in Glencoe and Glenfinnan, Scotland

Scotland has always been my favourite destination in the UK for a pre wedding shoot, so I was delighted when Herrick and Peonie contacted me from Hong Kong about an adventure pre wedding session in the Highlands.

This incredible couple wanted a location that blended romance with adventure. Glencoe and Glenfinnan were the first locations that sprang to mind and were the perfect backdrop for stunning elopement photographs in the beautiful Scottish countryside.

Glencoe and Glenfinnan are two gems in the heart of the Scottish Highlands and allow for the perfect blend of natural beauty and historic charm. Herrick and Peonie wanted to complete their pre-wedding shoot in a 1-day shoot, so I planned the itinerary to include both of these beautiful settings and a few other unique spots in between.

We started Herricks and Peonie's destination pre wedding story in Glencoe, a gem for 'Adventure Pre Wedding Photography'. The landscape is marked by magnificent mountains and tranquil lochs, presenting a blend of romance and adventure. This setting offers endless photo opportunities that are both unique and spectacular and some of my favourite spots in Glencoe include:

  • Glencoe ViewPoint: This spot is renowned for its panoramic views of the surrounding landscape, making it a perfect place to capture the grandeur of Glencoe in your photos.

  • Glencoe Lochan Trail: A serene and picturesque trail, it's surrounded by stunning forest scenery and a beautiful loch, ideal for intimate and tranquil shots.

  • Stob Dearg: Known for its impressive and rugged terrain, Stob Dearg offers dramatic backdrops, great for couples looking for striking and powerful imagery.

  • Aonach Eagach: This ridge is a favorite among adventurous couples, providing dramatic and thrilling backdrops that encapsulate the essence of adventure.

  • Rannoch Moor: This vast moorland is characterized by its unique and wild beauty, offering a sense of solitude and tranquility, perfect for capturing serene and natural moments.

  • Glen Etive Road: This road winds through stunning valleys and is known for its cinematic landscapes, making it an excellent choice for capturing the journey and romance of pre-wedding adventures.

After the captivating experience in Glencoe, we ventured towards Glenfinnan, which is famous for its viaduct and historical significance. Glenfinnan also boasts some incredible lake views on the banks of Loch Shiel, which dramatically complements the images we captured in Glencoe.

As the sun started to set, we headed back to Glencoe to finish the day here. Glencoe is filled with peaks and valleys meaning that the light changes dramatically later in the day. The evening images we created here are entirely different from those captured during the day, so it is always worth the journey to go back for these sunset images.

We were blessed with the most incredible Scottish sunset in Glencoe, and this allowed us to get some stunning sunset and evening images to finish the shoot with.

Working with this lovely couple from Hong Kong was a pleasure, and I had so much fun with Herrick and Peonie during their pre wedding adventure shoot.

Here are a few images from this Glencoe and Glenfinnan destination pre wedding couple shoot. You can view more about working with me for a Scotland pre wedding shoot here as well as see some more shoots from Glencoe, Isle of Skye and around the Scottish Highlands here.

Planning a destination pre-wedding or elopement photoshoot in Scotland?

You're in for a treat! Scotland's landscapes are nothing short of spectacular, making it an ideal choice for capturing those special moments. With so many incredible locations, I recommend considering a multi-day shoot to truly soak in the experience and make the most of your adventure.

Fort William is a fantastic base for exploring some of the best locations in the Highlands of Scotland as it is close Glencoe, Glenfinnan and just a few hours drive to the Isle of Skye. Picture yourselves among the ruins of Fort William Castle, with its rich history, or at the Glenfinnan Monument, where you get stunning views of the Scottish Highlands. And don't forget the iconic Glenfinnan Viaduct, known for its feature in the Harry Potter films. These spots offer a mix of natural beauty and a touch of whimsy that's perfect for your shoot.

Fort William also boasts Loch Eli, a beautiful lake set against a mountainous backdrop, and the scenic road to the Isle of Skye, filled with hidden gems perfect for destination pre wedding photography.

Glencoe's proximity to Fort William, just a 20-30 minute drive away, makes it incredibly accessible and, in my view, the ultimate pre-wedding photo location in the UK. The diversity of scenery packed into this compact area is astounding. From rugged mountains and rolling hills to serene lochs and dramatic valleys, Glencoe offers an array of backdrops that can transform your photo session into an extraordinary visual narrative.

The beauty of Glencoe lies in its ever-changing landscape, offering a different vibe with each season. Whether it's the lush greenery of summer, the rich hues of autumn, the mystical snowscapes of winter, or the fresh blooms of spring, every visit feels unique. This variety ensures that the images you create here are not just visually stunning but also deeply personal and reflective of your adventure as a couple.

Glencoe's natural charm is complemented by its sense of tranquility and isolation. Away from the hustle and bustle of city life, it allows couples to truly connect with each other and the environment, resulting in more relaxed and genuine photos. The dramatic Scottish weather also plays a role, adding an element of surprise and excitement to your shoot, whether it's a sudden mist rolling over the hills or a burst of sunlight through the clouds. Glencoe is not just a location, it's a backdrop that tells a story, your story. The photos you take here will be as unique and breathtaking as the landscape itself, capturing not just images, but memories and emotions that will last a lifetime.

Edinburgh, with its blend of historic city architecture and the natural beauty of the highlands, is another great spot. It's perfect for couples who want a mix of urban and natural settings. Some top photo locations in Edinburgh include the Edinburgh Castle and Gardens, the Vennel Viewpoint with its charming cobbled lanes and castle views, McEvan Hall, Law College, and Calton Hill for those breathtaking sunset shots.
